These are some images that we took during our practical session with Chris. We learnt how to use gobo's and shadows to create different effect on the images which can totally change the look of images. The image in the top left hand corner, the effect was created using different coloured plastic filters. These are put directly over the flash and the effect of this is then captured on camera. These can be placed in front of the flash in many ways to create different effects and shapes on the model's face.
The image on the top right hand side was created using the gobos. The gobos have shapes and patterns cut out on them and this is what created the shadow of the pattern on the model's face. They are also placed directly in front of the flash and then captured with the camera. One can create different effects with the patterns depending on the desired effect wanted.
The image at the bottom was also created using the coloured plastic filters. We used a black filter here as this was done to try and recreate lighting that would be used in typical mac beauty ad. This was done by placing the filter over the flash just covering a fracture of it. It was also placed on an angle to make sure that it covers one side of the model's face. A spotlight was used as the main lighting in this image. I really enjoyed this lesson as I learned something totally new and how to create different effects using the gobo's and filters. There was one thing I was really conscious about health and safety the whole time as we had to use a ladder to get to the flash and that king of terrified me.
