This was the second storyboard I created for my mac beauty ad, from the feedback I got from my previous storyboard. Looking at my previous storyboard I was told to make the overall story board look cute and have more pictures that relate to mac in the sense of lighting, poses and make up. In this story I have use three images that are actually mac ad's and the other three are inspirations of what I would like to my mac beauty ad to look like.
In my previous storyboard I stated that mac ad's normally have dark lighting, which I was wrong about. The mac ad's in this storyboard do not have dark lighting at all. In fact the lighting is bright all round the image. The poses of the models also make the images look cute. Like the image in the top left corner, the model has half of her face covered with her hair, her mouth slightly open and she is not looking straight at the camera. Her expression in the image also looks cute as it looks like she is surprisingly looking a something.
The image in the middle at the bottom also gives off a cute effect. I used this image in my previous storyboard and it was the only image that was cute. The fur used as a prop in the image, the styling of the models hair and her pose make the image cute. The image on the top right corner is also a mac beauty ad. The model's hair is quite sleek in this image and her expression on blowing her nails that could have wet polish and holding the telephone in the other hand could be seen as a woman empowering pose which could not be seen as cute. However, I think that the use of pink in the mage and her dress style with the big pink bow tie makes the image cute in a way.
The other three images in my storyboard are inspirations of how I would like my brand advertisement shot to look like. I liked the idea of the ripped paper and the model's face peeping through the paper which to me looked very cute. The image in the bottom left hand corner and the image on in the middle on the top are images by, David Ralph and makeup artist Lan Nguyen-Grealis for Cosmo beauty ad's. I found these images on their Instagram pages and was really inspired by them. These images were in fact created using mac cosmetics.
What really drew my attention to these images was the idea of the ripped paper. I have not seen a mac ad that has this feature and I would like to create one. It will be a heck of a mission to make sure that the paper is ripped in an organised manner and not just any how. The model's pose in the bottom left corner is not so cute but it put in that image as it was the idea of the ripped paper. The image in the middle of the story board at the top has more cuteness to it. This is due to the colours in the the make up and the model's expression. The image in the bottom right hand corner is an image from Matthew Gallagher's 2014 spring collection by the model, Mila Victoria. The model's pose in this image is not particularly cute.
However, I put this image in the story board as I thought the ripping paper effect looked quite cute as well the mode's clothes styling. The skirt is pink with flowers on it and the style in which her head scarf has been tied up I think looks cute. I now need to create makeup charts and hair charts on how I would like my model to look like. I would definitely like to use the ripped paper idea for my final images. For the lighting I would like to make it bright as seen in the mac ad's above. Moving on to the makeup I would like to use bright colours as mac are known for their vibrant colours. My main concern is making sure I pick the right model as picking a model with more of a baby face will be beneficial as the model's expression can be pulled off looking cute.
