Post Production Lessons with Peter

This was our first practical session with Peter on how to use post production to edit images. The key thin to firstly do is get the white balance right of the image. When setting the white balance of the image always make sure it is a neutral colour. This means that it is either white or grey and not a strong colour. Also when fixing the white balance always keep in mind that when selecting auto- this gives a cold/blue because of the skin having a natural tint of orange to it. The daylight option gives the skin a bit too much of the orange tint. This is why it should be done using the custom option.

After fixing the larger things is when we move on to fixing the details of the features on the face. While the mage is open in camera raw hold the shift key down and select open object in photoshop. This is helpful as the layers in photoshop protects the image in camera raw. Slimming the model's face can be done in photoshop by clicking on the image tab. Then select image size, make sure the resample box is unchecked and the measurements are in percentage and not cm. This will make sure that all the thinning done to the model's face will be proportional.

The skin can also be smoothed out in photoshop and this can be done using the liquify filter. The brush size can be be large or small according to the area being smoothed out. Frequency retouching can also be used to smooth and blur out any skin breakouts, freckles, fine lines or even hair on the face yet retain the fine detail. The lasso tool in photoshop can be used to draw attention to details and features of the face. For example, lips ca be mede to look larger using this tool or even the eyes can be made to look bigger than they normally would be.
