MAC is a well known brand today in the 21st century and has brought itself up to where it stands now along the years. MAC was first established by Frank Toskan in Toronto, who is a makeup artist and photographer himself. Mac cosmetics are well known for all the colourful make-up and pigments today. Frank Toskan when founded the brand was not happy with the fact that the products lacked colour. At the time cosmetics were homegrown in Canada, cooked in kitchens and then sold to other artists and photographers. Impressed with the cosmetics the good word going around enabled MAC to open their first department store in the year 1984.
Mac is also known for its sophisticated black packaging and cosmetic pots which has always been a strong point for the brand. Celebrities are known for using this brand as some endorse the brand today. However, this has been going on ever since the brand was founded when the first red matte lipstick was used on Madonna for her shoot in New York. While other makeup brands also focused on skincare, mac was the only brand that solely focused on getting colour out there and I guess this is what makes the brand stand out.
In the year 1995, mac cosmetics spread across the globe as Estee Lauder bought a percentage of the company. Due to this mac now was able to work backstage, used by professional makeup artists for fashion shows. The remaining shares of the company were then all bought by Estee Lauder in 1998 and this was the time that mac was booming and still is today.
